A lightweight, Gmail-styled open-source webmail dashboard featuring an Inbox, Sent folder, Compose functionality, and Contacts integration. It bypasses complex API setups by authenticating entirely through a standard 16-character Google App Password.

01 · The problem

Challenge

Google requires complex OAuth 2.0 setups, consent screens, and Cloud Console projects for basic API access, making simple, self-hosted webmail integrations overly complicated for individual developers and small deployments.

02 · How it was built

Solution

Developed a Node.js and Express backend that communicates directly with standard mail protocols (IMAP for reading/searching, SMTP for sending, and CardDAV for contacts) using just an App Password, completely removing the need for refresh tokens or OAuth workflows.

03 · The outcome

Result

Successfully delivered a functional, easy-to-deploy webmail client that supports 50-per-page pagination, real Gmail-style search (via X-GM-RAW), and safe HTML email rendering within a sandboxed iframe.
